On Monday, October 30, four Papé Material Handling Members in Anaheim, CA, were recognized by the American Heart Association with a Heart Saver Award after saving another member’s life in August.

Parts Counterman, John Serna, suffered a cardiac arrest at 8 a.m. on August 10th. At the first signs of trouble, Steve Stedman, Jim Hill, and Devin Hubbard rushed to John’s aid. After immediately calling 911, Lori Gurley retrieved the defibrillator, which they used and then performed CPR.

Paramedics arrived quickly and John was subsequently rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he fully recovered.

Bob Pilon, Papé Material Handling General Manager in Southern California, said, “Without the quick and composed actions of his co-workers, the outcome could have been much different. There are many metrics we use to measure performance, however the Anaheim crew displayed the most important quality of all – the ability to remain calm and clearheaded under the most stressful of circumstances. I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say that we are extremely proud of them. Well done.”
