The inspiring Foster Kids 5k was back for its sixth year with the Papé Group as a proud sponsor. The Charity Fun Run supported Hope Alliance for Kids, a nonprofit providing summer camp opportunities to children with a history of abuse or neglect.
Over 350 participants, volunteers, and sponsors joined the run at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA to raise money and awareness for foster kids in Washington. Participants hailed from all over the region including Eugene, Seattle, Kirkland, and even Ohio. This year, the proceeds totaled $16,000, putting the overall total throughout the six years at over $85,000!
Papé member and event cofounder Dave Oliphant and his wife started this race during the 2008 recession in hopes of raising money and awareness for foster kids. Thanks to the help of devoted volunteers and sponsors, their vision is growing each year. Dave describes the race as special, because “it is not a franchise. It is the pure, organic effort by people in the community to raise money and awareness for foster kids, and there is no motivation behind it other than it is the right thing to do.”
The hope for the future of the race is not only to build awareness of the challenges faced in the foster system in Washington, but to expand Hope Alliance for Kids summer camp through sponsorships. The overnight sessions offer activities such as horseback riding, drama, swimming, art, and other sports in a supportive and safe environment. With continued support from strong businesses including Papé, Alaska Airlines, and Black Rock Investments, the organizers hope to bring more credibility and attention to the event.
Papé is proud to support the important mission of Hope Alliance for Kids with the Foster Kids 5k. We are excited to see this cause as it continues to grow and expand its positive influence.
